FOLK MUSICIAN’S MOPED POPPING A WHEELIE -cd
PELIMANNIN MOPO KEULII
(FOLK MUSICIAN’S MOPED POPPING A WHEELIE)
Energetic and playful folk music from Master Folk Musician Pentti Ojajärvi’s Family Orchestra
This album features compositions by Master Folk Musician Pentti Ojajärvi (b. 1957) as well as arrangements of traditional folk tunes, performed by Pentti on mandolin together with his family orchestra.
The compositions and arrangements reach toward playfulness and small surprises, led by Pentti’s mandolin playing. Two songs based of poems Juhana Kainulainen (1788–1847), the great rune singer from Kesälahti, Finland, bring a reminder of the age-old tradition.
At the heart of the album are the joy of making music together and passing on the tradition – not as a museum piece, but as living, breathing and renewing music handed down from one generation to the next. The “moped” of the music is powered by the strength of tradition and fuelled by the joy of playing!
